The conference “Almaviva and Almawave in Apulia: Digital Innovation to Support Public Administration and Healthcare” took place yesterday in Bari. Here experts presented the results of OncologIA, an industrial research and experimental development project developed by Almaviva Digitaltec and Almawave and co-financed by the Apulia Region, which applies innovative IT technologies to the field of oncology.
“We’re very proud to have led the way in Apulia with the OncologIA project, which is part of a fruitful line of research into the application of artificial intelligence algorithms for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Artificial intelligence presents us with many challenges because it requires a new approach to healthcare. Public healthcare organizations, whose primary mission is care, must learn to collaborate with private companies, which are more focused on research and experimentation, in order to jointly develop new diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Similarly, doctors must engage with other professional figures who are not healthcare providers, such as engineers, data managers, and IT specialists, to tackle an extremely complex issue: the use of patients' health data, while also safeguarding privacy. The goal, for everyone, is to better manage patients and their medical history, seeking tools that make it possible to better treat diseases and, if possible, predict their evolution or prevent their onset,” said Alessandro Delle Donne, General Manager of the IRCCS Giovanni Paolo II of Bari.
During the event, the results of the investments made in recent years in Apulia were also presented. This provided an opportunity for discussion between the participating institutions which are actively involved in the digital transformation of their organizations.
“Together, we’re embarking on a forward-looking journey, based on two fundamental pillars: knowledge and technology. Today we had the opportunity to talk about the OncologIA project, fruit of priceless know-how, which combines the most advanced technological solutions to improve treatment and create new services that meet everyone’s needs: residents, individuals, and patients. We’re confident that the results achieved, the skills acquired, and our innovative technologies will translate into useful services that put technology to work for the community and the collective well-being of its residents,” commented Valeria Sandei, CEO of Almawave.
The Almaviva Group has announced an investment program in Apulia that, in the coming years, will focus on the strategic water, healthcare, e-government, and tourism sectors.
